FAQ | Blenheim Accounting

To get started, please bring the following items:

  • Proof of Address – e.g., a recent rates demand, utility bill, or similar document.
  • Proof of Identification – such as a driver’s licence or passport. (If you don’t have either, please talk to us.)
  • IRD Numbers – for all individuals and entities you wish to link with our tax agency.

The Benefits Include:

  • Extension of Time (EOT) to file tax return: If you don’t have an EOT then you have to file your tax return by 7 July of that year. However, if you have an EOT then you have until 31 March the following year to file your tax return. An EOT is automatically granted if you are with a tax agent and you are up-to-date with filing your tax returns.
  • Extra time to pay: If you have an extension of time, you get an extra two months to pay your terminal tax, 7 April instead of 7 February.

At Blenheim Accounting, we believe in fair and transparent billing. That means you only pay for the work we actually do — nothing more, nothing less. Rather than charging a fixed monthly fee regardless of activity, we tailor our fees to reflect the services provided. We’re happy to offer flexible payment options and would be glad to discuss a solution that works for you.

It is often not possible to know how long a job will take without reviewing the scope, especially if you are a new client. A lot depends on how well the information is presented and what is required. We may be able to provide an estimate after reviewing your records. Call us to discuss further.

You can keep records in digital or paper format—whichever works best for you. Essential records include:

  • Bank statements
  • Loan statements
  • GST returns (including any adjustments or calculations)
  • Invoices and receipts for purchases
Some people organise these by month, others alphabetically
  • Copies of customer invoices
This may vary depending on the software you use and the type of business you operate
  • Wage records, including copies of PAYE returns

To help us complete your year-end accounts efficiently, please provide:

  • Details of any new loans or hire purchase agreements
  • Insurance invoices
  • Any repairs or maintenance over $1,000 + GST
  • Notes or calculations for adjustments made during the year
  • Copies of invoices for business asset purchases (including vehicles) over $1,000 + GST
  • Notes on any unusual or one-off transactions
  • A motor vehicle logbook (if required – typically for a 3-month period)

Note: Business records must be kept for 7 years

Once your tax returns are completed, we’ll:

  • Calculate how much tax you need to pay and provide you a copy of the return for approval
  • Send you a payment reminder notice before each due date
  • Check your Inland Revenue assessments to ensure they’re correct

We understand that accounting needs vary. There’s no “one-size-fits-all” approach when it comes to software.

  • If you're new to accounting or not confident with computers, simpler software might suit you better.
  • More experienced business owners may benefit from full general ledger packages with advanced features.

We prefer to discuss your individual needs, budget, and experience before recommending any software.

No – we work with your existing software.
Our team is experienced with a wide range of accounting platforms, including:

  • Xero (our staff are certified Xero Advisors)
  • MYOB
  • And many other software packages

We’re happy to support you with whatever system you currently use.
